This applies to anime series only, cause the manga is an obvious I haven't read Billy Bat, I will read if after I read Pluto, which is a manga said to be very good and full of action.
I agree, anyone can tell that Urasawa has a lot of knowledge outside of Japan, such as Germany's culture, or as you say USA's culture. Out of all authors in the whole world, I respect Urasawa the most, only for the sole reason for giving me memorable masterpieces.
Well, the manga is labelled as Sci-fi, science fiction. So it was obvious that there would be flying robots or giant creatures.
They are just Urasawa's specialty, trust me. That being said, the robots only made it interesting for me. It's not like they affected the plot or the main characters started to use the robots to fight against Friend. The robots were just a product of Kenji's fantasy. Yes, Monster also had an epic ending. After all those attempts of Tenma trying to kill Johan, and when the moment finally came, Tenma is about to shoot, but another character who just was introduced shoots Johan.
That was out of this world, it was so amazing. It's like real life, honestly. That said, I think that Urasawa doesn't "plot" the story, but the character act on their own and make the events themselves. Know what Im saying? Urasawa does this perfectly. In 20thCB, we all thought that Kenji would have a final showdown with Fukubei and they have a long talk on why Fukubei became like that, but Urasawa gave a huge NO and killed Fukubei off without him meeting with Kenji after That was my favorite part of the manga.
I agree, Urasawa is a genius. Yea I agree with all of what you've said about the ambient in Monster. This is amazing! I really like Billy Bat and I dare to say that it has a potential to surpass both Monster and 20cb in the next 5 or 10 years. I wouldn't say it is underrated, it's still relatively new from it has years on to do its job.
A real-life politicians and other frauds who put the blame on another person and that victim becomes the historic criminal instead of those liars who hide in shadows and no one knows about them.
Urasawa made it that those people represent antagonists in Billy. This is especially interesting to me. Though, I'm still confused about who the real antagonist might be. Well, it's still ongoing. I liked endings in both Monster and 20cb and it's just as you said, the story is sometimes out of Urasawa's control.
What I really like in 20cb is how music has a real power, it's beautiful. Kenji and his only weapon: guitar. How awesome is that? Certainly, the most amazing point of 20cb is how Kustumata decided not to jump from a rooftop as he heard the song from school. It is connected to the very first scenes in manga although we don't see Katsumata there.
The narrative says 'nothing special happened in school' when the first classic rock song was released. But it actually saved a human life. You're absolutely right about the robot part. If 20cb turned into a Gundam scheme like, it would be a total let down. The last paragraph in your post is about Katsumata, right?
I've had had an earlier attempt of replying to you but I accidently deleted the whole text before I posted it. So I got pissed off and I had no more time -. Klad Offline Joined: Jan Posts: Fukubei was a unstable individual who had an obssesive goal to impress people. This though was unreachable for him, since he was literally a non existent person. Everyday he was there, standing alongside with the group of Kenji's friends, but no one noticed him that he was there.
No one would ask him what the world expo was like, no one would ask him for advices and no one would call him over to play.
Basically Fukubei was alone the whole time. This made Fukubei spend more time with himself, analyzing things and whatnot, this is I how he became charsimatic, I believe. He is the mysterious, charismatic leader of a unnamed religious cult and its associated political wing, a Japanese political party known as the "Friendship Democratic Party. For most of the series Friend's identity is unknown, although it is surmised early on that he must be one of Kenji's former classmates.
He is determined to put an end to humanity using the plans created by Kenji's Youth Group , otherwise known as The Prophecy Book. Friend's identity is revealed to be Fukubei Hattori shortly after his death. However, while the world mourns, Friend's most carefully hidden accomplice, Katsumata , takes his place. Rather surprisingly, an Animated Adaptation of the series was never planned.
